The Coffee Lady.I always do my preliminary sketching on paper with a one inch grid before touching the paper or canvas meant for the final piece.I begin roughing in the shapes with a white charcoal pencil and then with a soft vine charcoal. The vine charcoal is blended and more white charcoal pencil added.Charcoal pencil was used to define shadows and add contrast. Here her face is starting to look more definedHalf way through blending and pulling highlights out with a kneaded gum eraserThe coffee lady after her kneaded gum eraser treatment. (I like to think of it as a spa service for drawings)Here I started to add brighter highlights with a white charcoal pencil This photo was taken after using the white charcoal pencilI had coffee with coffee lady this morning as I worked on her face and hair.
I will continue to update this post as progress moves forward.
